Astronaut Joins Clemson to Promote the Value of Integrative STEM Education
Technology and Engineering Teacher, v73 n3 p23-25 Nov 2013
NASA and astronaut Patrick Forrester recently teamed up with Clemson University's College of Health Education and Human Development (HEHD) to promote STEM teaching and learning in the Upstate (SC) community. A goal of HEHD is to extend integrative STEM education opportunities to all teachers and their students in South Carolina. NASA space shuttle astronaut Patrick Forrester joined HEHD as an adjunct professor in an effort to support integrative STEM education. This past year, he made numerous presentations to various audiences, including K-16 students, administrators, parents, and business and industry leaders, and interacted with people interested in scientific and technological literacy for all children. Col. Forrester has brought his unique background and real-world experience to the classroom so that all children can understand the importance of what they are learning and how this knowledge will serve them in the future. Col. Forrester's presence has brought relevance to the principles that students are learning in the classroom. An interview with Patrick G. Forrester is presented in this article.
