The article presents the circumstances of a recent Salvadoran immigrant high school student who puts forth great effort to learn despite difficult circumstances caused by her immigration status, economic realities, and the educational system itself. The author issues a call to action for literacy educators to revolutionize their relationships with students, curriculum, and pedagogy. She discusses the need for teachers to give their immigrant students support through caring relationships, value of their lived experiences through relevant literature, and the agency they have lost through writing about their immigration stories.
