Cell Phones in the Classroom: Don't Put Them Away Just Yet!
Webb, Carolyn Lorraine
Kappa Delta Pi Record, v49 n4 p180-183 2013
As the number of students with cell phones has steadily increased over the past decade, these technological advances have caused trepidation among educators over behavioral issues, from off-task activities to cheating (Prensky, 2005). On the other hand, mobile learning, as well as some tools to use with cell phones, are easy to set up, easy to use, and easy to integrate into existing instructional strategies in the classroom. Instead of banning devices, educators can counter the negative issues by embracing cell phones as a means to engage students in lessons. This article centers around the use of cell phones specifically, but most of the suggestions are also applicable to other types of mobile devices, such as tablets.
