Let's Connect: Using Adobe Connect to Foster Group Collaboration in the Online Classroom
Kaufmann, Renee; Frisby, Brandi N.
Communication Teacher, v27 n4 p230-234 2013
The need for students to become connected in the classroom parallels the need for students to become socially integrated into the college community. Because technological tools are always changing, the opportunity for all students on- and off-campus to ''meet'' face-to-face and build relationships within the classroom are available and should be integrated into the online course. Thus, the activity developed here was designed to: (1) increase student interactions in online courses; (2) address instructors' relational concerns; (3) assist students to become socially integrated; and (4) teach Tuckman's group development process. Using Tuckman's model of group development and web conferencing software, students explore the group development process virtually and provide observations and reflections of their experience in a video blog (i.e., vlog) while simultaneously building community within their group.
