Putting Children on the Path to Becoming Responsible Adults: The Perspective of One Parent Living in the United Arab Emirates
Baker, Fiona S.
Childhood Education, v89 n5 p290-295 2013
Many parents seeking a sound education for their children are looking beyond the narrow boundaries of test scores into the realm of character education. This article explores how parenting approaches can help children live fulfilling lives in the present and also prepare them for future adult roles in personal, social, and professional spheres. Such family values, often based on social and religious mores, influence parents' school choices. This discussion sheds light on the implications of making value-based education influenced by community an integral component of early school curriculum, focusing here on a community of expatriates living in the United Arab Emirates.
