The advances made in physical science subsequent to World War II had had a mitigating effect on the need for a traditional religious interpretation of life, and a more freely expressed sexuality insofar as birth control techniques allow for avoidance of unwanted pregnancy; also, growing recognition of the autonomy of women parallels the advancement of an egalitarian philsophy correlated with recnet civil rights movements.
