Educational Research and Reviews, v8 n20 p1948-1954 Oct 2013
In this study, the metaphoric school perceptions of high school students were examined in terms of gender and grade. For this purpose, 892 students from seventeen different high schools in central districts of Ankara province participated in the study. The participants filled in the "Scale for School Perception (SSP)". The validity and reliability studies of the scale were performed on the collected data. And, it was proved that the SSP is both valid and reliable. The data was analyzed by using both descriptive statistical techniques and MANOVA. The findings indicated that females have more positive school perception than males. On the other hand, the males perceive the school as a suppression place. The analyses based on grades showed that the first grade students perceive the school as a place that protects and improves them when compared to the higher grades. However, it was observed that higher grades perceive the school as a suppression place more than lower grades.
