Using the Wii Balance Board in Elevator Physics
Mullenax, Donna
Physics Teacher, v51 n4 p210-211 Apr 2013
The Wii Balance Board is a popular accessory to the wireless video system
the Wii. In the past few years, the Wii Remote[TM] and Wii Balance Board
accessories to the Wii have made their way into physics labs as sensors to
measure force and acceleration. In most introductory physics courses, the
forces experienced while on an elevator are discussed and calculated. The
Wii Balance Board is a very good tool for having students measure the
forces experienced on an elevator and calculating the acceleration of the
elevator when it starts to move and then while it is coming to a stop. (Contains 2 figures.)
