Learning to Get Along at Work
Vanderlinde, Ruben; Kelchtermans, Geert
Phi Delta Kappan, v94 n7 p33-37 Apr 2013
Beyond learning how to manage children in a classroom, new teachers also must learn how to manage relationships with the adults in their school. Every new employee must be socialized into membership of their new work organization. In the case of teachers, that's the school and the district. In a study of beginning teachers in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking community of Belgium, the authors followed eight teachers over their first year of teaching, interviewing each of them four times during the year--at the beginning of the school year in September, Christmas holiday, Easter holiday, and at the end of the school year in June to document how the new teachers developed relationships with key actors in their school organization. (Contains 3 tables.)
