A Crooked Path to Success
Nakkula, Michael
Phi Delta Kappan, v94 n6 p60-63 Mar 2013
For a variety of reasons, some students who have the potential to become high achievers may not blossom until high school or beyond. By then it may be too late to take advantage of the educational opportunities afforded to students who have been making straight-As since grade school. They are what the author calls "Crooked-A" students, those who have taken a different journey to the cusp of achievement and are likely to need different supports to realize new-found goals. They will be better off with three A's of their own--Attitude, Action, and Authentic voice. Several programs have emerged and are showing success helping these latent achievers reach their goals.
