Video and Sound Production: Flip out! Game on!
Hunt, Marc W.
Techniques: Connecting Education and Careers (J3), v88 n1 p36-38 Jan 2013
The author started teaching TV and sound production in a career and technical education (CTE) setting six years ago. The first couple months of teaching provided a steep learning curve for him. He is highly experienced in his industry, but teaching the content presented a new set of obstacles. His students had a broad range of abilities, motivation and backgrounds. The students enrolled in his class because they were interested in video production, sound production or a mix of both. The curriculum was intriguing to the learners, but the traditional classroom environment hindered their engagement with the curriculum. The author knew there was a better way to reach his students. To do that, he flipped his classroom and added games to the curriculum to increase student motivation, participation and engagement.
