Designing a Website for Parents
Schleig, Elisa
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n208 p62-65 Nov-Dec 2012
Early childhood educators are aware of the great importance of having parents involved and engaged in their children's education. Although personal contact is still the best, it is not possible to rely on only one method of communication with current and prospective families. A variety of strategies need to be considered to keep the communication with parents fresh. What educators may not fully appreciate is that the rise in the number of homes with computers opens up new possibilities for them in their work. Designing websites for parents is a relatively new idea in the early childhood world. However, they are growing in popularity as the number of parents with access to the Internet at home or with a mobile device increases. A parent website allows for instant communication, but takes planning, time, and effort to maintain. This article discusses how to design a successful website for parents.
