Improving the Transition-to-Adulthood Outcomes of Youths with Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities
Kang, Mun Ju; Petr, Christopher G.; Morningstar, Mary
School Social Work Journal, v37 n1 p54-74 Sep 2012
Poor transition outcomes for youths with emotional and behavioral disabilities beg for the development of effective intervention models. After reviewing the limited empirical support for seven current intervention models, a critique is conducted that can serve as the foundation for modifying current practices toward building successful intervention models. An essential element of this critique is a discussion of the potential of social capital theory to provide the theoretical basis for potentially more effective interventions that emphasize the developing and maintaining of strong social support systems and combating social and institutional barriers.
