Student Discipline in Higher Education: A Collision Course with the Courts?

Administrators should be concerned with three basic areas of student discipline: (1) the area of constitutionally protected rights; (2) affording procedural due process in dismissing and suspending students for violations; and (3) relating to rules and regulations themselves, and how and why they are imposed. It is possible the courts will assume some of the responsibility for running institutions of higher education unless administrators begin actively implementing necessary developments. (Author)
