In an address before the Ninth National American Medical Association Conference on the Medical Aspects of Sports, November 1967, in Houston, the author assessed the ability of several agents to increase the capacity of bodily and mental effort by eliminating fatigue symptoms. Of the nutritional and physical aids, only carbohydrates have any physiological effect. Neither additional vitamins nor oxygen improve performance. There are no pharmacological aids which can be safely used. (Author/AP)
