This article presents a review of the experimental studies that have been conducted to determine the effectiveness of discovery learning as compared to expository learning in science and mathematics. The limitations of these studies are noted and some suggestions for future research are proposed by the author, who is an assistant professor of science education at Oregon State University. (LC)
