TALIS 2013 Technical Report: Teaching and Learning International Survey
OECD Publishing
Effective teaching and teachers are key to producing high-performing students worldwide. So how can countries prepare teachers to face the diverse challenges in today's schools? The Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) helps answer this question. TALIS asks teachers and schools about their working conditions and the learning environments. It covers important themes such as initial teacher education and professional development; what sort of appraisal and feedback teachers get; the school climate; school leadership; and teachers' instructional beliefs and pedagogical practices. TALIS provides cross-country analysis that helps countries identify others facing similar challenges and learn about their policies. TALIS results are published in the form of an international report, interactive database, individual country notes and thematic reports. The table of contents provides the following chapters and author names: Chapter 1: Introduction and Summary (Steffen Knoll, Friederike Westphal); Chapter 2: Overview of TALIS 2013 and the Study's Framework Development (Steffen Knoll, Paulina Koršnáková); Chapter 3: Development of the Teacher and Principal Questionnaires (Ralph Carstens, Paulina Koršnáková); Chapter 4: Preparation of National Survey Instruments (Paulina Koršnáková, Friederike Westphal); Chapter 5: Sample Design (Jean Dumais, Sylvie LaRoche); Chapter 6: Survey Operations Procedures (Friederike Westphal, Paulina Koršnáková, Steffen Knoll); Chapter 7: Quality Assurance (Paulina Korsnakova, Steffen Knoll, Friederike Westphal, Alana Yu); Chapter 8: Creating and Checking International Database (Alena Becker, Mark Cockle); Chapter 9: Estimation Weights, Participation Rates, and Sampling Error (Jean Dumais, Sylvie LaRoche); and Chapter 10: Construction of Scales and Indices (Deana Desa, Eugenio Gonzalez, Plamen Mirazchiyski).
