The Relationship between Job Satisfaction and Intent to Turnover among Software Engineers in the Information Technology Industry
Agada, Chuks N.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
The focus of this study was to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and intent to turnover among software engineers in the information technology (IT) industry. The population that was analyzed in this study was software engineers in the IT industry to determine whether there is a relationship between job satisfaction and intent to turnover among this population. A quantitative cross-sectional research study was the research design used in this research. Two existing survey instruments were used to collect data for this study. The data were collected from software engineers in the IT industry from SurveyMonkey's active member database of over 30 million members. SurveyMonkey is a premium data collection service that offers a variety of data collection services. One such service is the recruiting of participants based on the researcher's criteria. The surveys were e-mailed to 500 active members who are software engineers in the IT industry; 259 responded and 241 declined, resulting in 259 usable cases. SurveyMonkey also hosted the survey online via an encrypted website on a secured server. The Pearson r, a simple regression and bivariate measure, was used to conduct the analysis and determine the extent of the linear relationship between the two variables (job satisfaction and intent to turnover among software engineers in the IT industry). Furthermore, in order to compute the probability from the sample mean, inferential statistics were used. This allowed the researcher to draw inferences on software engineers in the IT industry. The results of the study showed there is a strong negative relationship between job satisfaction and intent to turnover among software engineers in the IT industry.
