Factors Influencing the Adoption of Cloud Storage by Information Technology Decision Makers
Wheelock, Michael D.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
This dissertation uses a survey methodology to determine the factors behind the decision to adopt cloud storage. The dependent variable in the study is the intent to adopt cloud storage. Four independent variables are utilized including need, security, cost-effectiveness and reliability. The survey includes a pilot test, field test and statistical analysis using a multiple regression technique. Prior to the final study, the Cronbach's Alpha measurements were utilized to determine the overall reliability of the survey instrument. These measures were all above the 0.7 recommended cutoff. A stepwise introduction of variables in a linear regression model was used to analyze the data. In order to use this method, the normality of the data was examined. By graphing all of the averaged data for each variable and superimposing a normal curve on the histogram plot, the normality was checked. The result of the analysis was that most important factor in the decision to adopt cloud storage is the customer's need for cloud storage. All other factors were less than 10% of the overall deviation. It should be noted that 26% of the deviation is not accounted for by the model. This indicates that other variables exist that are likely significant. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
