The Ever-Present Demand for Public Computing Resources. CDS Spotlight
Pirani, Judith A.
This Core Data Service (CDS) Spotlight focuses on public computing resources, including lab/cluster workstations in buildings, virtual lab/cluster workstations, kiosks, laptop and tablet checkout programs, and workstation access in unscheduled classrooms. The findings are derived from 758 CDS 2012 participating institutions. A dataset of 529 institutions that participated in both the 2012 and 2013 CDS surveys (as of October 2013) provides preliminary trend analysis regarding student technology resource demand. Only institutions with a designated Carnegie Class (DR, MA, BA, or AA) were analyzed for this bulletin. The EDUCAUSE Center for Analysis and Research (ECAR) CDS Spotlight Research Bulletin Series highlights findings from the EDUCAUSE Core Data Service, focusing on a small but meaningful slice of data collected in the CDS. These selected highlights are intended to provide context and meaning for CDS benchmarks that may be of especially broad interest, be especially timely, or draw connections between research from ECAR and CDS. The series is featured along with other CDS publications on the CDS website, http://www.educause.edu/coredata, and is now available to eligible ECAR subscribers as part of the ECAR subscription.
