Dropout Prevention Policy for the Appoquinimink School District

The purpose of this study was to research the dropout crisis in America, determine reasons for students dropping out of school, effects of dropping out of high school for students and the community, and research based intervention and tiered implementation strategies. The researchers then applied their findings to the specific needs of the Appoquinimink School District. The researchers found that the subgroup who dropped out of school at the highest rate was comprised of students who were new to the district--85% of all dropouts were also new to the district. Additionally, the researchers found that male students and special education students dropped out at a more frequent rate than other subgroups. The researchers designed a three tiered intervention plan the district could utilize in the Pre-K through 12th grade in every school.
