Organizational Transformation through Technological Change in Florida Community Colleges: Leaders' Perspectives
Bryan, Barbara J.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Barry University
My purpose was to understand the essence of a specific change effort that occurred in a select group of public community colleges in Florida. This phenomenological study was undertaken to discover how leaders from seven Florida Community Colleges perceived their experience of organizationally changing their institutions through a unique technological transformation effort. This qualitative research study examined leadership perspectives of the initial leaders involved in the Florida Community College Software Consortium (FCCSC) software design, relative to organizational change, leadership styles, and learning team approaches. Through exploring and describing the phenomena experienced by members of the FCCSC, I sought to produce knowledge from the perspective of 12 "Community College Educational Leaders." Both a small and large urban area institution emerged as model community colleges to emulate. This study, which sought to determine the organizational change models these leaders and their organizations ascribed to, their self-identified leadership styles, and their perspectives of the advantages and/or disadvantages of collaborative learning team approaches in learning environments revealed much more. The findings suggested that there are two blueprints, one to follow initially, and one to emulate if we first fail to achieve successful transformation through our organizational change, leadership styles, and learning team approaches.
