The HEPI-HEA Student Academic Experience Survey 2014

This survey continues a series of similar surveys conducted for the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) since 2006; this year it's been done in partnership with the HEA. It investigates the learning and teaching experiences of students, including: (1) satisfaction with courses; (2) reasons for dissatisfaction; (3) experience of different-sized classes; (4) total time spent working; (5) perceptions of value for money; (6) institutional spending priorities; and (7) student wellbeing (a new focus added this year). Both first-year and second-year students studying in England in 2014 are subject to the new fees regime so this is an opportune moment to explore the effects of the recent changes on their expectations, perceptions and experience. The survey was conducted in February and March 2014, with respondents drawn from YouthSight's "Student Panel" which itself recruits students in partnership with the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). 15,046 students completed the survey which gave a substantial base for investigating sector-wide issues, further research and informing policy.
