Development of an Instrument for the Measurement of Leadership Commitment to Organizational Process
Hylton, Peter D.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this research study was to create a new instrument designed to examine the commitment of an organization's leadership to following organizational processes, as measured by stakeholder perceptions. This instrument was designed to aid in closure of a gap in the field of leadership studies relative to the impact that a leader's commitment to following processes has on organizational success. The instrument was created using constructs derived from the existing literature relevant to the topic and followed guidelines established by recognized leaders with expertise in the development of appropriate measurement instruments. Subject matter experts were recruited to aid in developing the instrument and to assure that the instrument achieved content validity. A separate field test was conducted to help refine the instrument relative to its ease of being understood, as well as, how instrument items and their responses achieved connectivity with the desired research constructs. The instrument was applied in a test-retest sequence to a sample of participants from the business or industrial arena without regard to age, gender, or ethnicity. The data were analyzed consistent with approaches developed by leaders in the development of measurement instruments to examine the instrument for content validity and temporal reliability. The result of this study was the development of an instrument capable of being used in future research studies in which there might exist a need to measure the commitment of the leadership of an organization to following organizational process.
