One Texas Elementary School's Successful Response to Intervention Program: Case Study
Iles, Abby
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
This phenomenological case study addressed gaps in the literature related to successful implementation of Response to Intervention (RtI) in rural settings by exploring the experiences of educators in a rural Texas school district that has implemented a successful RtI program. Ten educators involved with the RtI process were interviewed about their beliefs and understanding of the RtI process at the participating campus. The following common themes emerged: RtI was a good process but the staff still expressed needs and there were some variations in the understanding of the process including qualification for entrance into Tiers, duration of interventions, and teacher to student ratio. Findings from this study emphasize the need for RtI committees to collaborate when discussing the academic success of students, to remain flexible when planning interventions, and to remain committed to providing interventions to students who struggle academically.
