Scott-Cheatham, Lawita Germaine
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University, Delaware
This study was designed to explore the perceived readiness of the graduating seniors at Delaware State University to transition from the classroom into the workforce. Delaware State University's undergraduate graduating class of 2012, 547 undergraduate seniors, were invited to participate in an online survey comprised of 23 items--derived from the concepts of Emotional Intelligence--(two parts: A and B, of which contained the same identical 23 items each) asking the participants to 1) rank specific professional skill sets based on what they believe to be important to their future employers (expectations) and 2) whether they are confident (satisfied) that they have learned the professional skill sets while matriculating at Delaware State University. The participants' responses were quantitatively analyzed by identifying reoccurring themes and issues via the data. The implications of the research for future findings and assessment on the impact of the professional development programming and activities provided on campus for students are explored.
