Making the Change: From a Teacher-Centered to a Learner-Centered Environment--A Phenomenological Study
Roof, Patty L.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Phoenix
Nursing education is calling for transformation in teaching practices which includes learner-centered environments. The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to explore 15 nursing faculty life experiences as they relate to the choice of a learning environment. Participants expressed their life experiences through interview procedures. The study used structural coding methods to categorize and identify themes. Although many major themes were identified; reoccurring themes existed in answering the second research question: what type of lived experiences influence the choice of the learning environment? The study assisted in understanding influential factors but with the recommendation to further explore nursing instructors understanding of learning environments and the effects on the desired skills among nursing students is recommended.
