The Role of Security Concerns in Determining Information Systems/Technology Activities Outsourced to Offshore Service Providers in India
Ocholi, Smart
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
Based on research studies, the Information System/Technology (IS/T) outsourcing industry in India is reasoned to maintain the status quo of providing IS/T services at the lower level of the IS/T value chain. The 2006 study conducted by Walsh supported the 2001 findings by Arora, Arunachalam, Asundi, and Fernandes that India-based IS /T service providers continue to perform low-end or value IS/T activities. The objective of this study was to determine the role of security concern in the decision-making process by clients for the types of IS/T activities outsourced to India-based service providers. With quantitative method using online survey of members of six closed LinkedIn network groups, and extensive literature review to back up the research study, it was determined that security concern played a major role in the types of IS/T activities outsourced to India-based service providers. The participants are IS/T professionals that belong to the management teams of competing organizations. Additionally, the results and findings of this could be used by current and potential clients of outsourcing, the vendors (India-based and in other parts of the world), agencies like NASSCOM, and the government of India to address security related concerns in the outsourcing industry.
