The Condition of Accreditation: U.S. Accreditation in 2011
Council for Higher Education Accreditation
Institutions are accredited by three types of accreditors: national faith-related organizations that accredit religiously affiliated and doctrinally based institutions that are primarily degree-granting and nonprofit; national career-related organizations that accredit mainly for-profit career-based degree-granting and non-degree-granting institutions; and regional organizations that accredit mainly nonprofit, degree-granting institutions. Eighteen (18) recognized institutional accrediting organizations accredited 7,818 institutions in 2010-2011. This report presents Information and statistics provided by accrediting organizations during the 2010-2011 academic year. This includes quantitative information about the numbers of accredited institutions and programs in the U.S., student enrollment, operating characteristics of accrediting organizations, international accreditation activity and recognition of accrediting organizations. A key to abbreviations for institutional accrediting organizations and programmatic accrediting organizations is appended. (Contains 21 figures.)
