Reducing Alcohol Sales to Underage Purchasers: A Practical Guide to Compliance Investigations

This booklet is designed to provide a general overview and practical guidance for compliance check investigations within one's community. It is by no means exhaustive of the topic and cannot contemplate every possible circumstance that may arise. This document should not be construed as providing legal advice nor does it supersede any State or local laws applicable within one's community. Prior to conducting compliance checks within the community; it is imperative that one consults with department/agency's legal counsel to ensure one's program adheres to all legal requirements within one's State/community. This guide provides guidelines and operational information on reducing sales of alcohol to undergraduate purchasers through compliance investigations of alcohol retailers. It presents the rationales for carrying out these investigations and emphasizes the importance of reducing youth access to alcohol. Appended are: (1) Investigative Aide Personal History Form; (2) Investigative Aide Program Agreement of Understanding; and (3) Witness Statement/ Affidavit. (Contains 4 resources.)
