Analysis of Hiring Practices of Wisconsin Secondary School Administrators--Four Case Studies
Borden, Susan
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The University of Wisconsin - Madison
This research was intended to shape a line of inquiry that examined the hiring practices of Wisconsin secondary school administrators related to characteristics of effective teaching. This was done through four case studies. Specifically, two research questions were posed: (1) What strategies do secondary school administrators in Wisconsin use to screen teacher candidates? (2) To what extent do principals focus on indicators of teaching effectiveness when making hiring decisions? The study incorporated data collected from semi-structured interviews. Key findings and results are presented. Results provided implications for administrators who hire teachers, for teacher certification programs, and for other educational stakeholders.
