Investigation of Differences among Arkansas Instructional Facilitators Concerning Collaborative Practices, Instructional Facilitation, and Teacher Choice
Endel, Karen D.
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
The purpose of this exploratory study was to investigate the characteristics of Arkansas Instructional Facilitators (AIFs) and perceptual differences of those employed in this teacher leadership role with respect to collaborative practices, instructional facilitation, and teacher choice. Survey methodology was utilized, with 214 AIF respondents from across Arkansas completing the 35 item questionnaire. Major findings from the study, with statistical significance at the p less than 0.05 level, suggested AIFs with at least 11 years education experience, who facilitated 21 to 30 teachers, spent 50% to 75% of their time working with individual teachers, and 10% to 24% time facilitating teacher teams perceived to have greater influence toward building collaborative practices, strengthening instructional facilitation, and encouraging teacher choice. Implications from the study suggested district and school administrators may want to consider the past education experience of potential instructional facilitators during the employment hiring process. School administrators should consider expectations of the AIF role related to teacher assignment ratios and time allocations associated with individual and teacher team facilitation, aligned to enhance job-embedded professional learning for every teacher. Recommendations for future research include conducting a similar study with state-by-state comparisons. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
