Strategic Management of the Information Technology Resource: A Framework for Retention
Sanchez, Cesar O.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Phoenix
The qualitative phenomenological study focused on the exploration and identification of factors that might trigger the turnover of IT professional employees. The interview of 20 IT professional employees from the State of New York assisted in the collection of perceptions and lived turnover experiences of IT study participants. Five themes emerged from the study: (1) current job satisfaction, (2) job dissatisfaction factors, (3) leadership outsourcing/downsizing factors, (4) experiences with turnover factors, and (5) impact of family factors. Analysis of the interviews revealed leadership relationship, work environment, employee compensation packages, and family factors that might trigger turnover intention and actual turnover of IT employees. The results of the current research study may provide leaders with information to develop strategic plans that help mitigate the turnover of IT professional employees.
