The Impact of Earning a Degree at the Sisseton Ahpeton College

The purpose of this study was to determine whether enrolled members of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation who graduate from the Sisseton Wahpeton College have experienced impacts on their lives upon earning a degree. The study was a qualitative, descriptive case study that was intended to report the responses provided by the participants. The population chosen for this study were 20 enrolled members of the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate who live and work on the Lake Traverse Reservation and who had graduated from the Sisseton Wahpeton College (SWC). The participants graduated from any degree or certificate program, were of any age, both male and female, and graduated at any time throughout the years the college has been in operation. The study revealed the graduates from the Sisseton Wahpeton College who participated in this study have perceived benefits to their lives from earning a degree at SWC. Additionally, the study has revealed that the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate has subsequently been positively impacted by the improvements in the lives of the member graduates.
