The Implementation of a Reading Recovery Program for At-Risk First-Grade Students
Daniels, Angie L.
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Capella University
This 8-week case study involved evaluating the impact of the Reading Recovery intervention program on students with reading difficulties. The participants of this case study were 2 at-risk first-grade students selected for participation in the Reading Recovery program, which provided 30 minutes daily of one-on-one instruction. This study employed a case study design with a qualitative methodology in which the researcher generated quantitative data to triangulate the findings. This was a study of convenience. Students participating in this study were the students selected for participation during the first 12- to 20-week cycle of the Reading Recovery program. The 2 students were tested using the Observation Survey at the beginning of the Reading Recovery program and this study. Data were retrieved from the phonemic awareness, vocabulary, concept of print, and comprehension portions of the various tests to determine growth over an 8-week period.
