Articulation Guide for English as a Second Language Programs in the British Columbia Post-Secondary Transfer System. Ninth Edition, 2009/2010
Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development
The purpose of the provincial ESL (English as a second language) articulation process is to maintain high standards of quality in ESL programming at the public post-secondary institutions of British Columbia, as well as to facilitate access to programs at other public institutions for students wishing to transfer. This ninth edition of the ESL Articulation Guide is the result of another year's work and a lively two days of meetings of the Adult ESL Articulation Committee. Both public and private member institutions of the BC Transfer System were well represented at the meetings, and the members again demonstrated their passion for integrity and professionalism in the treatment of the adult English learners of BC. This edition includes important recent work by the Access and Work Committees. These committees met regularly over the year to develop new descriptors based on the Canadian Language Benchmarks. Individual institutions then realigned their English for Access and Work courses and programs using the new descriptors. The result of this work was twenty-four re-articulated and four newly articulated Access and Work courses included in this edition with the remaining courses to be rearticulated at the 2010 Articulation meeting. Appendices include: (1) General Process for Adding or Making Substantive Changes to a Course or Program in this Guide; (2) Provincial ESL Articulation Steering Committee; (3) English for Academic Purposes Working Committee; (4) English for Access Working Committee; and (5) English for Work Working Committee.
