It is crucial that foreign language teachers know well what kinds of grammar teaching strategies best aid learning in the classroom in order to adjust their teaching toward a practical and successful approach. Much of the debate about how to help EFL learners achieve grammatical proficiency centers on the implicit versus explicit, or deductive versus inductive grammar instruction dichotomy. The focus of this review is the importance of explicit teaching of grammar and its effect on language learning. (Contains 1 table.)
