Preparing a New Breed of Principals in Tennessee: Instructional Leadership Redesign in Action
Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)
From 2005 through 2008, the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) worked with the Tennessee State Board of Education and two universities in Tennessee--East Tennessee State University (ETSU) and the University of Memphis--to redesign educational leadership preparation. These two universities served as pilot sites for a redesign that would be brought to scale across the state. This report describes the work at these two pilot sites, along with Tennessee's efforts to bring the redesign to scale statewide. It describes the key characteristics of an effective learning-centered leadership preparation program and includes recommendations for states interested in redesigning their school leadership pipeline.
