Annual Evaluation Report for Rural Physics Teacher Resource Agents Covering Period from June 2004 to May 2005
Fulp, Sherri L.; Banilower, Eric R.
American Association of Physics Teachers (NJ1)
This report summarizes the activities and findings of Horizon Research, Inc. (HRI) in its external evaluation of the American Association of Physic Teachers (APPT's) Rural Physics Teacher Resource Agents (PTRA) project. The report details HRI's work and findings since June 2004. The report is divided into five main sections. The first provides an overview of the AAPT/PTRA Rural project and a description of the key questions guiding the evaluation. The second presents data on the 2004 PTRA institute, including PTRAs' expectations for the institute, their perceptions of the quality of the professional development, and the impact of the institute on their preparedness to lead rural institutes. The third section reports data collected on the rural institutes held during the summer of 2004. These data include a description of the 25 rural institutes and the teachers attending them, as well as feedback from the PTRAs leading these institutes. This section also reports the results of a study of the impact of the project on the content knowledge of outreach participants. The fourth section describes a study of the impact of the AAPT/PTRA Rural project on student achievement in kinematics, dynamics, energy, and momentum, which is currently in progress. The final section summarizes the key findings and presents HRI's recommendations for the project. Two appendices are included: (1) Analysis and Reporting of Questionnaire Data; and (2) Questionnaires (AAPT/PTRA: Pre-Institute Questionnaire; AAPT/PTRA: Post-Institute Questionnaire; Rural Institute Participant Questionnaire (Version A); and Rural Institute Participant Questionnaire (Version B). (Contains 23 tables and 7 footnotes.) [For "Annual Evaluation Report for Rural Physics Teacher Resource Agents Covering Period from June 2002 to May 2003", see ED505765.]
