Guidelines for Authors of Learning Objects

This guide provides practical suggestions and tips for authors of learning objects (defined as any grouping of materials that is structured in a meaningful way and is tied to an educational objective), offering advice for design, usability, and reusability; for keeping learning objects learner-centered and learner-driven; for aligning with current metadata standards; and for making objects accessible. It includes tips for "marketing" finished work and resources for follow-up information. Criteria for eight guidelines are presented: (1) Design to Enable Learning; (2) Graphic Design Guidelines; (3) Usability; (4) Accessibility; (5) Accessibility; (6) Interoperability/Metadata; (7) Choosing a Technology and Development Tools; and (8) Maintenance.
