Report on the Condition of Higher Education in Ohio: Meeting the State's Future Needs
Ohio Board of Regents
The "Report on the Condition of Higher Education in Ohio" is issued annually as a statutory responsibility. Its purpose is to provide policymakers and the general public a snapshot of where the state stands in providing the higher education services Ohio needs in the competitive world. The Regents believe that Ohio needs college graduates in the numbers and disciplines required to meet the workforce demands of a thriving 21st century economy. To ensure a high quality of life for its citizens, and that continuous innovation through expanded workforce development, research and technology transfer are vitally important for Ohio. Areas assessed include: (1) Educational and degree attainment and participation; (2) Preparation; (3) Affordability; (4) Financial condition and productivity; (5) Workforce development, research and technology transfer; and (6) Capabilities and strengths of Ohio's higher education system. The report concludes that Ohio's current levels and trends in educational and degree attainment, participation, preparation, affordability, productivity and finance are particularly insufficient to meet the needs of the 21st century. Following an Executive Summary and Report on the Condition of Higher Education in Ohio, the report includes 9 sections: (1) Ohio's Economy and Its Relationship to Education; (2) Educational and Degree Attainment; (3) Participation; (4) Preparation; (5) Affordability; (6) Institutional Context--Breadth and Quality; (7) Financial Condition and Productivity; (8) Economic Development: Workforce Development, Research and Technology Transfer; and (9) Summary and Next Steps. Appendices and Resources conclude the report. (Contains 29 endnotes. Charts and tables are included by individual section.)
