The Role of Intent in Ethical Decision Making: The Ethical Choice Model
King, Christine; Powell, Toni
Online Submission, Paper presented at the International Research Conference in The Americas of the Academy of Human Resource Development (Indianapolis, IN, Feb 28-Mar 4, 2007)
This paper reviews the major theories, studies and models concerning ethical decision making in organizations. The authors drew upon Jones' Model (1991) as the foundation for their Ethical Choice Model, which is designed to further clarify the ethical decision making process as it relates to the construct of intentionality. The model, illustrated through an HR case example, serves as a practical system for assessing the impact of values and beliefs and intentionality on ethical dilemmas. (Contains 1 figure.)
