Tuition and Fees in Public Higher Education in the West, 2007-2008: Detailed Tuition and Fees Tables
Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education
This annual report provides detailed information concerning tuition and mandatory fees at public higher institutions in the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education's (WICHE's) 15-state region, including an institution-by-institution historical review of tuition changes from year to year as well as a 10-year average. Also included are comparisons of tuition and fees by Carnegie Classification based on the 2005 Carnegie Classification of Higher Education Institutions. Among the key findings of an annual survey were that the average tuition and fees for resident undergraduates in 2007-08 at public four-year institutions in the region were $4,789, an increase over the previous year of $367 (8.3 percent). After adjusting for inflation, the change in average resident undergraduate tuition in the region was 5.2 percent over 2006-07. Tuition and fees for resident in-district students at public two-year colleges in the WICHE states, excluding California, averaged $2,391 in 2007-08, an increase of $91 (3.9 percent). Differential pricing is occurring in several public institutions in the West, though it is not yet a widespread practice. Appended are: (1) The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education; (2) Number of Public Four-Year Institutions by Carnegie Classification in the WICHE Region, 2007-08; (3) Number of Public Two-Year Institutions by State in the WICHE Region, 2007-08; (4) Procedure for Converting Current Dollars to Constant Dollars; (5) Methodology; (6) Mandatory Fees at Public Four-Year Institutions in the WICHE Region, 2007-08; (7) Mandatory Fees at Public Two-Year Institutions in the WICHE Region, 2007-08; (8) Differential Tuition Policies at Public Four-Year Colleges; (9) Differential Tuition Policies at Public Two-Year Colleges; and (10) Survey Instructions.
