Supporting Struggling Readers in an Inclusive Classroom

Today's special education movement towards inclusion has created an urgent need toward providing struggling readers with remedial skills as well as ways to access the general education curriculum. In order to help these struggling readers acquire the skills to read and continue to progress in all academic areas, teachers need to have the knowledge of remedial programs available for teaching reading skills and strategies to assist these struggling readers gain assess to the entire curriculum. There are numerous if not overwhelming articles and books that offer strategies and programs that support and teach struggling readers. The purpose of this study is to research and compile in a cohesive manner best practices for teachers to help struggling readers in an inclusive environment.
