Getting to Results. Closing the Achievement Gap
Read, Tory
Annie E. Casey Foundation
The "Closing the Achievement Gap" series explores the Casey Foundation's education investments and presents stories, results, and lessons learned. This publication describes efforts to develop a flexible but rigorous results measurements system that enables the Foundation and its grantees to reflect on practice and course-correct as needed to achieve the targeted results. It also presents selected aggregate results to illustrate progress in the area of education results measurement. Results are discussed in the categories of impact (improvement in the success and well-being of children, families, and/or communities directly served by the grantee); influence (positive changes in opinions, practices and/or policies as a result of the grantee's work); and leverage (new or increased public or private co-investment in Foundation-supported activities that lead to better results for children and families). This framework provides a common language for the Foundation and its grantees to discuss progress. Additionally, it is used by the Foundation to sharpen the education portfolio's strategic focus by guiding selection of new investments, and evaluating the program as a whole. For grantees, the framework is used as a tool to refine focus and manage/improve programs. [For the entire "Closing the Gap" series, see ED500487 through ED500493.]
