The Middle School Task Force was created in May 2007 as a result of the State Board of Education's High School Redesign efforts and recommendation for a committee to examine middle school issues to meet the following goals: (1) To ensure that all students are prepared to be successful in high school; (2) To increase academic engagement and student accountability by middle school students through a relevant and rigorous curriculum; (3) To examine the benefits and issues associated with increasing middle school curriculum requirements; (4) To examine the benefits of strong leadership and a focus on continuous improvement; and (5) To establish positive relationships and increase the amount of guidance and support for all middle school students. Since May 2007, the Task Force has focused on: (1) Accountability; (2) Transitions: (3) Curriculum; (4) Intervention; and (5) Leadership.
