Arkansas Department of Education Programs for Language Minority Students, 2005-2006
Arkansas Department of Education
Families whose native language is not English have been arriving in Arkansas seeking employment in agriculture-related and other industries. School-age children from these families are relatively new to most of Arkansas school districts, and the educational programs necessary to meet their needs in many school districts are relatively new. Over the last six years the population of language-minority children enrolled in Arkansas public schools has increased over 116%. This report uses charts and graphs to present statistical data on Arkansas' (1) language minority student enrollment; (2) limited English proficient student enrollment; (3) language groups; and (4) percentage growth of language minority student enrollment.
