In this unit, elementary students design and build a lunar plant growth chamber using the Engineering Design Process. The purpose of the unit is to help students understand and apply the design process as it relates to plant growth on the moon. This guide includes six lessons, which meet a number of national standards and benchmarks in Technological Literacy, Science, Science Literacy, Mathematics, Social Studies, and English Language Arts: (1) Natural Resources on Earth; (2) Exploring the Moon; (3) Providing Light for Your Plants; (4) Watering Your Plants; (5) Designing the Growth Chamber; and (6) Building a Lunar Plant Growth Chamber. Each lesson includes a lesson snapshot, an overview, a 5-E lesson plan, lesson preparation materials and references. Resource documents are appended.
