Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative: Building Nurturing Communities of Thriving Children
Chase, Richard; Moore, Christopher; Curry, Rasheeda
Online Submission
The purpose of this report is to identify model strategies used by the Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative to improve the well-being of young children. The Minnesota Early Childhood Initiative is comprised of coalitions of individuals and organizations in over 165 greater Minnesota communities. These coalitions have implemented more than 400 projects, programs and activities that are sensitive to the needs of diverse populations, and that address five key building blocks for a nurturing community: strong families, engaged community members, effective and coordinated early care and education, early learning opportunities, and ready schools. In conversations with Wilder Research, key actors from community coalitions described their models, the strategies they used, what they expected to achieve, factors that contributed to their success, and the assumptions or theories of change that undergird their strategies. In this report, Wilder Research summarizes and blends the results of these conversations and the theory of change for the five components and then summarizes some of the supporting research evidence. References are listed at the end of the report. [This report was prepared for the Minnesota Initiative Foundations by Wilder Research.]
