Joint Standing Committee on Education: Update on Higher Education Personnel Study

The following topics are included in this update: (1) Comparison of West Virginia classification and compensation systems to those of the University of Michigan, the University system of Maryland, and the University of North Carolina; (2) Classification and Compensation System Training, including an agenda and summary of a two-day seminar devoted to the topic; (3) Performance Management Systems to develop measurable indicators or merit and performance and reliable instruments of performance evaluation; (4) Performance Reviews of Classified Employees in 2005 with results suggesting that a significant percentage of classified employees do no receive regular performance reviews; (5) Ratio of Non-Classified Employees to Retirement-Eligible Employees with cautionary comments regarding interpretation; (6) Market Research Study to be commissioned; and (7) Study of Faculty Issues: An Update with anticipated schedule of next commission meeting and targeted results.
